    INTRODUCTION
    Application Note 67 is a collection of circuits from the first
    five years of Linear Technology, targeting data conversion,
    interface and signal processing applications. This
    Application Note includes circuits such as fast video
    multiplexers for high speed video, an ultraselective
    bandpass filter circuit with adjustable gain and a fully differential, 8-channel, 12-bit A/D system. The categories
    included herein are data conversion, interface, filters,
    instrumentation, video/op amps and miscellaneous

    Wafer level trimming allows the LTC1392 to achieve
    guaranteed accuracy of В±2В°C at room temperature and
    В±4В°C over the entire operating temperature range. The
    10-bit A/D converter gives 0.25В° resolution over the 0В°C
    to 70°C (LTC1392C) or –40°C to 85°C (LTC1392I) range.
    Temperature is output as (ADC code/4) – 130°C with
    a theoretical maximum range of –130°C to 125.75°C.
    Figure 1 shows the typical output temperature error of
    the LTC1392 over temperature.
    In supply voltage monitor mode, the A/D converter
    makes a differential measurement between the 2.42V
    reference and the actual power supply voltage. Each
    LSB step is equal to approximately 4.727mV, giving a
    theoretical measurement range of 2.42V to 7.2V. The
    LTC1392 has guaranteed accuracy over a voltage range
    of 4.5V to 6V, with a total absolute error of В±25mV or

    Fault-tolerant systems ensure their users uninterrupted
    service and prevent data loss through acquisition of
    accurate supply voltage, load current and temperature
    information. By comparing this information to predetermined operating profiles, the system decides if the
    measured data is within nominal ranges or if a fault
    condition is looming. If a fault condition is imminent,
    the system takes corrective action before data is lost. The measured data can also be used to establish preventative maintenance schedules. The system develops
    stress profiles based on operating time and the measured
    values of the different parameters. These profiles suggest
    a need for increased preventative maintenance when the
    measured values indicate high sustained peak operation
    over a given time period or a relaxed schedule during
    times of reduced activity.
